Portfolio Trackers Compared: Sharesight, Kubera and Portfolio Performance (2026)

If you hold funds, ETFs or shares across several accounts, the number you actually want is your return across all of them. Each provider shows its own figure, worked out its own way, and adding them up gives the wrong answer because the money went in at different times. Three tools come up most often for fixing that: Sharesight, Kubera and Portfolio Performance. They are built for different people and priced very differently. This page compares them using each company’s own pricing pages on 29 September 2026.

Disclosure: we are building Held, an investment tracker that is not released yet, so we have an interest in this topic. We have kept Held out of the comparison table and say plainly where each of these three is the better fit.

Sharesight

Sharesight is a cloud portfolio tracker known for performance and tax reporting. It has a free plan for one portfolio with up to 10 holdings, including closed positions. Starter ($7 a month billed annually) allows 30 holdings, Standard ($18 a month billed annually) allows unlimited holdings and four portfolios, and Premium ($23.25 a month billed annually) allows ten portfolios. Paying monthly instead of annually costs about a third more.

Best for: investors who want reporting they can hand to an accountant and do not mind a yearly subscription. Trade-off: your holdings and transactions live on Sharesight’s servers, and the price runs from about $84 to $279 a year once you go past the free tier.

Kubera

Kubera is a net-worth tracker rather than a pure investment tracker. It connects to accounts through several aggregators, tracks crypto and other assets, and calculates IRR. There is one plan for individuals, Essentials at $250 a year, and a 14-day free trial; a Black plan for complex family and entity structures costs $2,500 a year.

Best for: people with a mix of assets, including crypto and property, who want one view of everything and are comfortable connecting accounts through aggregators. Trade-off: it is the most expensive of the three, and its convenience depends on linking your accounts.

Portfolio Performance

Portfolio Performance is free, open source software for Windows, macOS and Linux, with mobile apps. Your data stays in a local file on your computer, there is no account, and it calculates true time-weighted return and internal rate of return across your accounts. It is popular with self-directed investors who want full control.

Best for: technical investors who want a free tool and are happy to learn it. Trade-off: a steeper learning curve than the cloud tools, and you enter or import your own transactions.

What “true return” means

Two measures matter, and they answer different questions:

A useful tracker shows both, across every account, and lets you see the transactions behind each figure. Adding up each provider’s own percentage does neither.

How to choose

Frequently asked questions

Is Sharesight free? Sharesight has a free plan for one portfolio with up to 10 holdings, including closed ones. Paid plans start at $7 a month billed annually in the US.

How much does Kubera cost? Kubera’s Essentials plan is $250 a year, with a 14-day free trial. Its Black plan is $2,500 a year.

Is Portfolio Performance really free? Yes. It is open source under the Eclipse Public License, free to use, and stores your data in a local file.

What is the difference between time-weighted and money-weighted return? Time-weighted return ignores the timing of your deposits and withdrawals and measures the investments; money-weighted return (IRR) includes that timing and measures your own result.

Is there a portfolio tracker with no subscription? Portfolio Performance is free. We are also building Held, a pay-once tracker that keeps your data on your device; it is not released yet, and you can join its waiting list on the Held page.

Held is in development: your true investment return across every account, with no bank logins and no subscription.
